Created in August 2024, Dress For The Dream is a short film conceived by the artist as an exploration of identity, ambition, and the pursuit of possibility in New York City. Featuring a cast of friends and collaborators, the film follows a generation of young people, some native to New York and others connected to distant homelands, navigating the relationship between their heritage, present circumstances, and imagined futures. Produced as an early cinematic expression of LUMÈRE, the film examines the traditional narratives surrounding American luxury and who is afforded the opportunity to define it. Drawing from the artist’s own experience as a Black designer raised in Sutton Place, the work presents fashion as a medium for exploring belonging, cultural authorship, and self-determination. Created through the collective efforts of a close network of friends and emerging creatives, Dress For The Dream represents an early articulation of the philosophy that continues to inform the artist’s work: the freedom to envision a future beyond the circumstances of one’s origin. “This isn’t just about fashion. This is about rewriting who gets to define luxury in America.” — Mounir Sakho, Creative Director, LUMÈRE
