Live sample-based musical composition, Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

1:40

Created in reflection of Mounir’s 25th birthday, this composition samples Barbara Mason’s 1965 recording Yes, I’m Ready, reinterpreted through a series of chopped and rearranged passages on the Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II sampler. Rather than being pre-recorded, the composition is performed live through the instrument’s tactile keys, allowing each performance to unfold in real time. The work reflects on the privilege of reaching 25 years of life, contemplating the artist’s past, the loss of his father, his present circumstances, and the ambitions that continue to shape his future. The source recording’s title, Yes, I’m Ready, takes on a deeply personal significance, expressing a willingness to embrace life’s uncertainties while continuing to build toward an envisioned future. Both a celebration of life and an acknowledgment of its impermanence, 2(Twenty)5(Five) marks a moment of reflection, gratitude, and readiness for what lies ahead.
