Mounir’s exploration of music production traces back to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when discovering the work of Kaytranada inspired him to begin building a personal library of musical references. Over the following six years, the collection grew alongside an ambition to create original sample-based compositions and collaborations. An initial attempt at music-making through digital DJ software proved unsatisfying. Seeking a more tactile relationship with sound, the artist rediscovered Teenage Engineering, a Swedish design company whose approach to musical instruments resonated with his appreciation for industrial design and physical interaction. At 3:24 AM, he ordered the EP-133 K.O. II sampler, collecting it from a New York City music store later that morning. The instrument marked the beginning of a long-awaited exploration of music production, transforming years of passive listening and collecting into an active creative practice. The instrument has since been personalized with a collection of visual references, reflecting the intersection of music, design, and the artist’s broader creative identity.
